Bad One
I was so excited when I received my Liteon DVD writer. That is where the excitement stopped. I was able to burn 1 DVD before my writer just stopped working. I tried everything including re-installing and..no results. I am in contact with Amazon..still waiting for return E-mail?? I also tried to contact Liteon..No answer as of today. I needed a writer..went out and got a Sony Mod# DRU 840A..Love it..no problems.
NOTE...As of today..8-12-08..after talking to Amazon..My issues have been resolved ..very pleased with customer service

This drive went is quite easily and works really well; and I'm not a techie type. 2008-05-03

Works Great
I have had this product for a couple of months, and have had no problem with it. I did not get to try out the light scribe yet. But I've had no problem with the burning of DVD's. 2008-03-30

Not Bad
It does what it says pretty good, well packed and comes with some great accessories. It is slow as all lightscribe drives are and the image it does burn on the CD's are pretty sharp but not super dark. I hooked it up with my HP desk top and it works great with out any incident, easy to install. 2008-03-20

Great drive. Really happy with supporting software.
I am using this drive in a Dell Dimension 8250 (Pentium 4, 512MB) with Windows XP Home, SP2. I didn't have any experience with DVD copying. I am very happy with the Nero Essentials software that came with it (I think some of the items are running on a 30 day trial right now). So far I have made a video montage using pictures and movies which took me a few hours to do, but had a really good result in the end. I think the next time around it wouldn't take me quite as long. The DVD came out with menu and everything. (I will most likly buy the full version of the Nero software because of it.) I also had problems with our copies of the Wedding DVD which we got from the videographer a year back. It would suddenly get stuck. We had another DVD copy we had given to relatives and it got stuck at another part. I wasn't able to copy either DVD completely, because there was always some sort of error, including straight copying disc-to-disc. Again, with the help of the accompanying software I was able to decode (?) the movie and put it on the computer and then recode (?) it on a DVD. Now we have a working copy of our wedding video again! (This is probably more thanks to the software than the drive, but still).
OK, the drive itself. It's reasonably quiet when burning. I think DVD burning is a bit louder than CD, but I used to have a much louder external CD burner a while back. And I've heard louder external hard drives. I am very pleased with this drive. Just make sure the drive is compatible with the type of connections you have. Some of the Amazon descriptions don't really advertise it, and I ended up looking it up on the Lite-on website to make sure I had a drive with EIDE plugs, not SATA (which is another model). I haven't trid the Lightscribe burning, since I haven't bought this type of DVD/CD yet, but it's like anything else based on what I read. If you want it done well it will take more time. Marker works, too, but I am looking forward to trying out this function. Just makes it look nicer in the end. Also, I have not tried Dual Layer discs yet either. Ultimately, I want to try to put out Wedding video on one DVD (instead of the current 2), so if I can do that and still have it play on TV I would be extremely happy. Plus, it's great for backing up more data. I take a lot of large pictures.
Overall, I give 5 stars to this Lite-On drive for both CD and DVD usage, and especially the drive's versatility (CD, DVD, +, -, R, W, RW, DL, lightscribe) and 5 stars plus a thumbs up to the software. (I have read some not so good reviews about some people's bad experiences with Nero Essentials Plus, but despite this, I think I'll buy it since I am really happy with it. Just beware.)
